RSS pays its homage to Padma Bhushan Dr. R Nagaswamy who passed away, on Jan 23, 2022 at the age of 91 in his residence at Chennai.
Dr. Nagaswamy was an acknowledged International expert in Indian art and authority on Chola bronzes. He was a multi-faceted personality who has specialized in ancient epigraphs, architecture, sculpture bronzes, paintings, Numismatics, religion, philosophy, Temple rituals, Music, dance and south East Asian art.
His expertise enabled India to win the Pattur Nataraja case in London court by establishing evidences on its history and Tamil culture. The Judges too paid tributes to his “un-appealable” arguments. He played a crucial role in Rama Janmabhoomi case by giving evidence for 26 full days that helped in proving that temple existed beneath the disputed structure supported by evidences from excavation by Archeological society of India. Dr. Nagaswamy was one of the founders of the world famous Natyanjali dance festival. He was also the first vice chancellor of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya, Fellow of Sekkilar Research Centre Chennai, Tamilnadu Archeological society and Arsha Vidya Gurukulam.
He has tirelessly worked for protecting art and culture of India until his last breath. He has left a void that is difficult to fill. The RSS conveys its deep condolences to all the family members and prays the Almighty to grant an immortal place for Dr. Nagaswamy at His auspicious feet.
